A large collection of works of art created from ancient times to the present day is kept in the Azerbaijan State Museum of Arts named after Rustam Mustafayev. The museum was founded in 1920 and named in the honor of one of the founders of scenery art of Azerbaijan.
The museum’s exposition is built in chronological order and divided by countries. There you can see the works of such 16th – 19th -century European painters of the as Jacopo Bassano, F. Soliman, A. Brouwer, P. Claes, U. Sustermans, F.A. Kaulbach, F. Khals and others. The Art of Russia is presented by the paintings of the 18th – 19th – century artists: Borovikovsky, Tropinin, Shishkin, Vereshchagin, Aivazovsky, Korovin, Serov, and Roerich.
The collection of Azerbaijani art features vessels of the 6th – 4th centuries BC, medieval pottery, ancient rugs and jewelry as well as the works of the founders of Azerbaijani realistic art - Mirza Kadimov Erivani, M. Navvab, B. Kengerli, A. Azimzadeh (the 19th – 20th centuries), the best work of the Siviet Azerbaijani artists - Salam Salamzade, Mikail Abdullayev, Togrul Narimanbekov, Tahir Salahov, Vidadi Narimanbekov, sculptor Omar Eldarov. One of the rooms is fully dedicated to the works of Sattar Bahlulzade.
